I have been a fan of Johnson Brothers Blue Willow dishes<\/a> for quite a while.\u00a0 Santa heard about this and brought a set to me for Christmas.\u00a0 Thanks, Santa Baby.\u00a0 My 90-year-old mother-in-law spent a few days last week on her way to Florida, and I thought it would be the perfect occasion to use the dishes for the first time.<\/h3>\n

\"Blue<\/p>\n

I always like to use blue and white during the cold months of winter because blue is a cool color, but it is also a comforting color.\u00a0 I had a great time pairing the traditional design of the new plates with some vintage things my mother-in-law has given me.\u00a0 For instance, the linen tablecloth belonged to her late sister.<\/h3>\n

And so did the wine goblets.\u00a0 They looked just fine beside the blue water goblets that I bought at the dollar store a few years ago.<\/h3>\n

If anyone out there recognizes this pattern, could you please let me know?\u00a0 I did some research when she first gave them to me years ago, but I never was able to identify it.<\/h3>\n

I just love looking at and using these plates.\u00a0 They are such classics.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0\"Napkin<\/p>\n

I used silver napkin rings that were made from old spoons.\u00a0 They were tarnished, but I kind of like how the patina looked with everything else, and so, I didn’t polish them.\u00a0 These napkin rings were a gift from my sister-in-law who is Grandma’s daughter.<\/h3>\n

For the centerpiece I just used some mums from another flower arrangement and tucked them into a blue vase and added some white votive candles.\u00a0 Our menu was full of comfort foods for a cold January night.\u00a0 We had a spinach salad with feta cheese, dried cranberries, and pine nuts paired with a homemade balsamic vinegar, Bisquick chicken pot pie<\/a>, and chocolate cake<\/a>.\u00a0 It was all very tasty.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0All of us really enjoyed it.\u00a0 Our son was in town also, and since Grandma is a great lover of card games, we topped off the evening with a new game called “Three-Thirteen.”\u00a0 Have you played it?\u00a0 It is so much fun!<\/h3>\n
