{"id":25599,"date":"2015-01-05T19:00:16","date_gmt":"2015-01-06T00:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=25599"},"modified":"2015-01-06T18:50:43","modified_gmt":"2015-01-06T23:50:43","slug":"force-tulips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=25599","title":{"rendered":"How To Force Bulbs to Bloom"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>While you were pulling out your Christmas decorations, did you unearth a bag of tulip, crocus, daffodil or other bulbs that you bought last fall but forgot to plant?\u00a0 Well, it&#8217;s not a problem if they have been hanging out in a cool place like your garage, basement, (or fridge!).\u00a0 You still have plenty of time to plant those bulbs and force them to bloom this spring.\u00a0 When we took our <a title=\"Bicycling in Germany\" href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2014\/12\/03\/bicycling-germany\/\">bicycle trip in Europe<\/a> last fall, our bike guide Lea told us that she had grown up on a tulip farm in the Netherlands, and her parents still live there.\u00a0 I was full of questions about growing tulips indoors, and Lea gave me some great tips, and said getting good results is really easy. By the way, the reason I want to grow tulips indoors rather than in our <a title=\"My Take on Ralph Lauren\u2019s Courtyard\" href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2013\/05\/14\/my-take-on-ralph-laurens-courtyard\/\">courtyard <\/a>is because we have a few obese squirrels around here that would make a meal of the bulbs in about two seconds flat.\u00a0 (For some reason, they don&#8217;t like daffodils, FYI).<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" left\">Although I can promise that they probably won&#8217;t look as luscious as this tulip field Jordan and Yankee are hanging out in, you can have a nice bowl full of blooms to enjoy in your home.\u00a0 It won&#8217;t take a lot of effort or supplies to make this happen.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3>I have several blue pottery mixing bowls in different sizes and selected the largest one to use as the container.\u00a0 Since it will be a centerpiece on the kitchen or dining room table, I didn&#8217;t want to use just a clay pot.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-25605\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_9558-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"Tulips\" width=\"558\" height=\"371\" 558px) 100vw, 558px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Drainage is important for tulips, Lea explained.\u00a0 She said they like a sandy soil, but since I didn&#8217;t have any sand on hand, I put a few hands full of styrofoam packing nuts in the bottom of my container.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter don&#8217;t need good soil to bloom and flourish.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-25608\" left\">In order to have a lot of blooms in the spring, I added a lot of bulbs.\u00a0 It is okay if they are crowded.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img little bit.\u00a0 I won&#8217;t need to add much water while they are in the garage.\u00a0 Maybe just once every three weeks or so.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: temperatures they need to continue to sprout and eventually bloom.\u00a0 Sometimes Mr. Right takes a few minutes to organize the garage to keep it looking spiffy.\u00a0 I added a label to he will know it is a bowl of tulips rather than an abandoned bowl of soil leftover from a blog project.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" well I will have some beautiful blooms this spring.\u00a0 Being patient will be the hardest part of this project.\u00a0 It will be a great way to have a little bit of my favorite country in our
