a Dining Room Table"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">It all started with this Ikea table that I wanted to stain.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t horrible, but I wanted to update it and give it a fresh look.\u00a0 I decided that staining it would be the best way to go.\u00a0 It would freshen the dining room table without changing its look completely.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20539\" sizes=\"(max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">I had great success painting the chairs and base of the table white, and my plan was to give the top a darker 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">After a total of six hours of sanding, I was able to get the table down to its original bare birch wood. \u00a0I then stopped my project for a little while to figure out what to do next. \u00a0I even asked for suggestions on Facebook, and they were great. \u00a0Most people said paint the top a color. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t get Yankee on board with that, so I decided to stain it again, and if that didn&#8217;t work, I was getting out the\u00a0 paint.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-24533\" 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">The first thing I did differently this time around was use three coats of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B002OTUYCY\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B002OTUYCY&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=the2sea-20&amp;linkId=25ORIARMF3MVWOG6\">Minwax Pre-Stain<\/a>. \u00a0This is to help eliminate streaking, and since it was birch wood, which is tough to work with anyway, it needed more than one coat. \u00a0Also, I decided to practice on the back of the table leaf. \u00a0I sanded it down and loaded up the pre-stain, and then I applied different stains that we thought might work. \u00a0I really wanted a dark stain, but as you can tell, it wasn&#8217;t going to work again. \u00a0We opted for the one with a little bit of color on the bottom of the picture.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">I only applied one coat of stain because I was happy with the color and not having streaks. \u00a0The next step was to apply <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000C010J8\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000C010J8&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=the2sea-20&amp;linkId=Z5OJKFAM6GTNFWMZ\">polyurethane<\/a>. \u00a0I applied three light coats and sanded between each coat.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" coasters. \u00a0This table will hold up to the &#8220;elements.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"
