{"id":24424,"date":"2014-09-11T18:00:16","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T23:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=24424"},"modified":"2014-09-11T11:10:27","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T16:10:27","slug":"homemade-pizza-sauce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=24424","title":{"rendered":"Homemade Pizza Sauce"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Finally, after thinking I wasn&#8217;t going to get even one tomato, the bushes that I planted in my<a title=\"The Basic Herb Garden\" href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2014\/05\/27\/the-basic-herb-garden\/\"> herb garden<\/a> last spring have started to produce.\u00a0 I picked a pan full and decided it might be fun to make some homemade pizza sauce so Mr. Right and I could enjoy a delicious pizza from scratch.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-24438\" alt=\"Homemade pizza sauce\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Homemade-pizza-sauce-681x1024.jpg\" width=\"409\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Homemade-pizza-sauce-681x1024.jpg 681w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Homemade-pizza-sauce-215x323.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">I combed the on-line recipes and found one at <a href=\"www.kitchentreaty.com\">Kitchen Treaty<\/a>, a new to me site.\u00a0 The directions were easy, and so while I did some computer work, it simmered away on the stove.\u00a0 For the crust, I used <a title=\"Dueling Dough\" href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/01\/19\/dualing-dough\/\">this recipe<\/a>.\u00a0 It was such a treat and so delicious.\u00a0 We actually chilled out and ate pizza in front of the television while watching the news.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not something we do very often.\u00a0 If you have a few or an overload of fresh tomatoes right now, I highly recommend this recipe.\u00a0 It could even be canned so you could enjoy it in the middle of winter.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">HOMEMADE PIZZA SAUCE<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>1 tablespoon olive oil<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1 tablespoon minced garlic (about two or three large cloves)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1 teaspoon dried oregano or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped oregano (if using fresh, add at the end of the cooking time)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>2 cans (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes (undrained) or 2 pounds diced fresh tomatoes<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1 teaspoon sugar<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1\/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (this makes for a lot of heat, which we love, but I recommend you start out with 1\/4 teaspoon or even just a generous pinch if you&#8217;re unsure)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>1\/2 teaspoon kosher salt<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Black pepper to taste<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Directions<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>In a medium saucepan over low heat, warm the olive oil.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for about a minute. If you&#8217;re using dried oregano, add that along with the garlic. If you&#8217;re using fresh, add it to the sauce at the end of the cooking time.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Increase the heat to medium. Add the tomatoes, sugar, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Leave over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until boiling.
