{"id":22520,"date":"2014-04-24T17:55:59","date_gmt":"2014-04-24T22:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=22520"},"modified":"2014-04-24T17:55:59","modified_gmt":"2014-04-24T22:55:59","slug":"the-deepest-darkest-bestest-chocolate-cake-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=22520","title":{"rendered":"The Deepest, Darkest, Bestest Chocolate Cake EVER"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><strong><\/strong><\/em>If you have a yearning for some chocolate, you are at the right place.\u00a0 I realize that bestest isn&#8217;t a word, but I had to use it anyway.\u00a0 I have the perfect chocolate cake for you, and it is fairly easy to make. \u00a0I ate sushi for lunch yesterday, and for some reason, that meal brought on a chocolate craving. \u00a0Plus, one of my friends fell off of her horse this week and broke some bones. \u00a0Ouch!!! \u00a0I&#8217;m taking lunch to her house today. \u00a0She requested soup. \u00a0I plan to pick some up on the way, but I thought she might appreciate a chocolate cake chaser. \u00a0Chocolate cake doesn&#8217;t involve tooooo much chewing, so here&#8217;s hoping she&#8217;ll be able to enjoy it.\u00a0 Meanwhile, I&#8217;m going to munch on a piece as soon as I write this post.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22523\" alt=\"Choco cake\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Choco-cake-1024x681.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Choco-cake-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Choco-cake-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>This recipe has been in my file since I was a new bride. \u00a0It is similar to one my mother made when I was growing up. \u00a0I made it in a 9 x 13 pan because I only own two \u00a0eight-inch rounds (it needs three). \u00a0For the frosting, I just whipped up a concoction of powdered sugar, milk, butter, and cocoa with a dash of coffee to enhance the flavor. \u00a0(If you are fans of The Barefoot Contessa then you know it&#8217;s a trick she uses).<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22525\" alt=\"Chocolate cake\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_7564-1024x681.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_7564-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_7564-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">DEEP, DARK CHOCOLATE CAKE<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>1 3\/4 cups unsifted all-purpose flour<\/h3>\n<h3>2 cups sugar<\/h3>\n<h3>3\/4 cup cocoa (I used Hershey&#8217;s)<\/h3>\n<h3>1 1\/2 teaspoons baking soda<\/h3>\n<h3>1 1\/2 teaspoon baking powder<\/h3>\n<h3>1 teaspoon salt<\/h3>\n<h3>2 eggs<\/h3>\n<h3>1 cup milk<\/h3>\n<h3>1\/2 cup vegetable oil<\/h3>\n<h3>2 teaspoons vanilla<\/h3>\n<h3>1 cup boiling water<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Add remaining ingredients <em>except<\/em> boiling water; beat at medium speed 2 minutes.<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Gently stir in boiling water. \u00a0The mixture will become very thin.<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Pour into three 8-inch layer pans, two 9-inch layer pans, or one 9 x 13 inch pan.<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes if using layer pans and 35 to 40 minutes if using one pan.<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211;
