Lexington has a few historic homes that are open to the public for tours.\u00a0 These homes also have gardens that are planted close to the way they would have looked when people lived there.\u00a0 I am a member of the Town and Country garden club, and we tend the garden at the Hunt Morgan House.\u00a0 I had a few free minutes this morning, and so, I stopped by the house to take some photos of the garden in its spring finest.<\/h3>\n

The house is located in an historic part of town, and each house in the area is just as lovely.<\/h3>\n

During the civil war, a campsite for the soldiers was located across the street.\u00a0 This old hitching post is located in front of the house.\u00a0 I don’t think it was around during the war, but it is very fitting since Lexington is the Thoroughbred Capital of the World.<\/h3>\n

The gate and wrought iron fence are also very old.<\/h3>\n

This is our newest garden plot which is still a work in progress.\u00a0 A millstone fountain will sit in the middle of the round boxwood formation in the middle, and a bench will be positioned against the wall.\u00a0 A lot of weddings are held in the garden, and this will be a perfect spot for photographing the couples.<\/h3>\n

There are several old brick pathways lined with boxwoods.\u00a0 They create the perfect aisles for the brides.<\/h3>\n

The club keeps its garden tools in this charming “shed”.<\/h3>\n

There is also a gazebo that is another great place for wedding photography.<\/h3>\n

This is another bench in the wedding “altar” area.\u00a0 Brides will often bring in cut flowers in their colors on the day of the wedding to add the colors they want in the garden.<\/h3>\n

We decided that we need to add some more bulbs this fall so there will be more color next spring.<\/h3>\n

Here’s a peek of the house next door.\u00a0 I think it is in the Queen Anne style.<\/h3>\n

A charming stable\/carriage house is in the back.\u00a0 It isn’t being used for anything except storage at this point.\u00a0 I think it has sooooo much potential.<\/h3>\n

Every other June our club hosts an old-fashioned garden party to raise funds for the garden’s upkeep.\u00a0 The party will be on Tuesday, June 24.\u00a0 There will be wine, heavy hors d’oeuvres,, and the price is $30.00.\u00a0 If any of you would like more info, just contact me in the comments section.\u00a0 We would love to see you there!<\/h3>\n
