{"id":22371,"date":"2014-04-20T18:08:31","date_gmt":"2014-04-20T23:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=22371"},"modified":"2014-04-20T18:08:31","modified_gmt":"2014-04-20T23:08:31","slug":"new-updates-in-our-office-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=22371","title":{"rendered":"New Updates in Our Office, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>What a great week-end! \u00a0 Mr. Spring and I were busy getting in touch with our wild side (more details on that later). \u00a0Mom and Dad enjoyed their empty nest by spending the Easter week-end on a bicycling trip. \u00a0Hope you all had a good one.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Well, our office is finally finished. \u00a0Yes, it took a lot longer than we expected due to some breaks we took, but we are so happy with the way it turned out. \u00a0There are lots of pictures and descriptions, so I broke it down into two posts. \u00a0First, I&#8217;ll give you some background. \u00a0 We have \u00a0an extra room on the first floor in our house that could be used as a bedroom if we added a closet. \u00a0The previous owner had the walls painted deep red and the ceilings black and used it as a movie room. (We got rid of that set-up really fast). \u00a0 Since I work from home when I am not traveling for work, we decided to make it into our study.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-15315\" alt=\"Office Before\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/fabric-another-desk-before-798x1024.jpg\" width=\"510\" height=\"655\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/fabric-another-desk-before-798x1024.jpg 798w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/fabric-another-desk-before-251x323.jpg 251w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Here are some very old pictures taken with my iPhone. \u00a0I moved everything around before I realized I forgot to get good before shots. The black Ikea chair is super comfortable, so we decided to hold onto it. \u00a0Again, here you can see some more of our books. \u00a0(I should add that we both also have Kindles that are full of with books. \u00a0This is a good sized room, but there it was not well-organized. \u00a0We just weren&#8217;t getting the full benefits from it.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: \u00a0We also decided to cheat and use the Ikea Billy bookcases.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter style=\"text-align: center;\">The first thing we had to do after we assembled the bookcases was remove the track lighting that the previous owner had on the ceiling. \u00a0We had an electrician close out electricity to these lights and \u00a0to the outlets that were going to be behind the cases. \u00a0We planned to have trim all the way to the ceiling to make for a custom look.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22375\" alt=\"Office Progress\" fan of doing anything with the ceiling. \u00a0The angle kills my neck.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">We also had to remove the window trim and cut it down just a tad to make the bookshelves fit. \u00a0In the spot under the window we thought a window seat would be perfect. \u00a0(You can see traces of the red the previous owner used.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22377\" alt=\"Office Progress\" 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Once the trim was removed, Mr. Spring installed the bookcases to the walls so they would be secure. (Thank goodness he is really handy). \u00a0In this picture the bookcases are taller because we bought and added the Billy bookcase extender. \u00a0The extender gave us more storage for all of our books. \u00a0Trim to hide the seams will be added to the area that is being held together with clamps.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22376\" alt=\"Office Progress\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_5833-682x1024.jpg\" width=\"409\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_5833-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_5833-215x323.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">I painted the trim pieces to match the bookcases before we attached it. \u00a0The color I used was Dove White by Valspar. \u00a0I am happy with the match up.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22379\" alt=\"Office Progress\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_5838-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_5838-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_5838-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Once we had the bookcases in place and the window trim the right size, \u00a0we nailed the window trim back. \u00a0This was the first time I used a nail gun, and wow, it makes life a lot easier. \u00a0I now see why Mr. Spring says he is a huge fan of that purchase every time he uses it.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: -webkit-auto;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: normal;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22380\" alt=\"Office Progress\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6196-682x1024.jpg\" width=\"409\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6196-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6196-215x323.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Once the trim was added, we no longer can see the seams between the two bookcases. \u00a0There was also a gap from the extension case to the ceiling. \u00a0That is where the upper trim\/molding is coming into place. \u00a0We decided we had some books and papers we could hide, so we also bought the doors that you can use with the Billy Bookcases.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22382\" alt=\"Office Progress\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6213-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6213-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6213-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">The next step was working on our window seat. \u00a0Instead of buidling one from scratch we bought a smaller cabinet from Lowes. \u00a0I painted it the same color so it would match everything else. \u00a0 Mr. Spring work hard to make sure everything was level.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-22384\" alt=\"Office Progress\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6217-1024x682.jpg\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6217-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_6217-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Next, Mr. Spring cut a top to fit on the cabinet and added some pieces for the cabinet to have a built-in look. \u00a0He also attached the cabinet to the wall to make sure it was not going to move when we sat on the seat.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Progress has been made. \u00a0We&#8217;ll show you the completed room later this week.<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 13px;
