You know that we normally revisit a post from last year on the first blogging day of the month, but yesterday we were busy with this<\/a>. \u00a0We have noticed an increased interest in our past Derby party posts, so, we thought that we would revisit a how-to on Derby party hosting that we ran in the past.<\/h3>\n

Hey, ya’ll!!! \u00a0(I had to throw that in there since today’s theme is southern in nature.) \u00a0If you are on the fence about hosting a Kentucky Derby Party, there is still time. \u00a0I have a plan for you.<\/h3>\n

You still \u00a0have time to send out paper invitations at this point, but you can send out an on-line invitation by going here<\/a>. \u00a0(The Derby is the first Saturday in May, by the way).<\/h3>\n

Derby decorations are not too difficult. \u00a0You can use some of your equestrian themed items that you might have, or you can make some decorations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

Also, you can bring your chalkboards into play, or you can print out some graphics of things like these racing silks.<\/h3>\n

You definitely need to set up a bar and serve mint juleps. \u00a0This print-out of a quote by Kentucky statesman Henry Clay would be cute on the bar. \u00a0There are a gazillion mint julep recipes online, so you will definitely need to have bourbon, mint, simple syrup and plenty of ice of hand.<\/h3>\n

You might ask your guests to dress up. \u00a0You can take it one step further by having a “Best Hat” and “Best Bow Tie” contest. \u00a0Have cute little Derby-related prizes for the winners. \u00a0Also, set up a betting station so your guests can have a personal interest in which horse wins. \u00a0You can find different ways to go about this here<\/a>.<\/h3>\n
