Jordan and I decided to tuck 2013 in by sharing some of our favorite projects that we did this year. \u00a0When I looked back through the blogs we produced each month, I noticed a definite pattern. \u00a0We are normal gals. \u00a0Our projects won’t change the world – just our world. \u00a0Every. Single. Thing. that we did, made, or remade is something that every single one of \u00a0you can do. \u00a0Although I would love to rock power tools and create a design or idea that has never been done before, it ain’t<\/em><\/span> gonna happen. \u00a0So, enjoy what we have done and are resharing and envision yourselves making small changes in your homes.<\/h3>\n

I am pleased to share this post with you again. \u00a0I finally got up the nerve to do a project that I have wanted to tackle for five years.\u00a0 Yes, five years.\u00a0 Finally, the stars lined up, and I got four signs that I should proceed.\u00a0 Come along, and I\u2019ll tell you all about it.<\/h3>\n

The first sign was that I had this armoire I wrote about\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0remade and put in our great room. \u00a0The second sign was seeing this\u00a0desk<\/a>\u00a0and thisarmoire<\/a>\u00a0on the\u00a0Velvet and Linen blog<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

The third sign was that I saw a sample of Annie Sloan Paris Grey on top of her Old White at Haven.\u00a0 It was so smooth and beautiful, and I really liked it. \u00a0Plus, it matched the gray on our kitchen peninsula, and I already owned the Old White.\u00a0 And the fourth sign was that one of the leaders in a decorating class I took at Haven said you should do something in your home that scares you.<\/h3>\n

I finally got up the nerve to paint this armoire that we use in our mudroom as a shoe cabinet.<\/h3>\n

We put it in the mudroom when we moved in, and it has been a perfect spot for it.\u00a0 However, you can see that the reddish mahogany was clearly too formal for the space.\u00a0 There were so many people saying, \u201cDon\u2019t paint that furniture.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI can\u2019t believe you want to paint your armoire.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cAre you crazy???\u00a0 You want to paint the armoire?\u201d<\/h3>\n

I love that I finally did it. \u00a0One morning I woke up last week and knew it was time. \u00a0I bought the Paris Grey at a local shop. \u00a0First I applied my Old White, and shortly afterwards was able to apply the grey. \u00a0It only took one coat of each.<\/h3>\n

I distressed it and then waxed it with just a clear wax.<\/h3>\n

Then a few days later I distressed it some more. \u00a0I love seeing a touch of the wood, and a touch of the white.<\/h3>\n

I wanted the armoire to be a gray that would match the gray in the mudroom runners, and match the kitchen peninsula, and that\u2019s just what I got.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe I waited so long.\u00a0 I am not a shrinking violet (hey, I have jumped out of an airplane), but this little task scared me.\u00a0 What a waste of good time that was.\u00a0 So, the lesson here, my friends, is to not be afraid of doing what you want in your home.<\/h3>\n
