Happy Monday!\u00a0 Here’s a tip that you will thank me for.\u00a0 If you haven’t seen the stage production of War Horse<\/em>, then you need to put it on your bucket list.\u00a0 It was one of the best shows I have ever seen.\u00a0 Also, Jordan gives two thumbs up to the movie Captain Phillips<\/em>.\u00a0 She and Mr. Spring saw and really enjoyed it.\u00a0 Warning – it is intense.<\/h3>\n

We mentioned last week that we were having our blog enhanced a little bit.\u00a0 It’s kind of like a face lift.\u00a0 We had some tweaking done, and it’s such a good job that folks know something is different, but they just can’t put their fingers on what it is.\u00a0 We aren’t finished yet, though. \u00a0There are still changes that need to be made we are slowly finding out. \u00a0Now on to our post.\u00a0 As is the tradition around here, at the beginning of each month we have been pulling a popular post to revisit from the same month a year ago.\u00a0 Well, today we have two that have been enjoyed.\u00a0 We hope our seasoned readers will like seeing them again and hope our new readers enjoy them for the first time.<\/h3>\n

MAKE YOUR OWN POTPOURRI by Jordan<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Certain smells always remind me of certain times and places. \u00a0For instance, my grandmother\u2019s potpourri is always simmering this time of year in our kitchen.\u00a0 In the past I wrote about it (here<\/a>), but this week my mom put together a little fresh potpourri concoction from items she had in her kitchen. \u00a0She didn\u2019t have to buy a thing to make it.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s so easy and in just a matter of minutes, you can assemble your own. \u00a0Here is what you do:<\/h3>\n

1. \u00a0First, eat two oranges about two days before you want to make your concoction. \u00a0Then let the peels dry out. \u00a0You could probably speed this up by popping them into the microwave for a few minutes.<\/h3>\n

2. \u00a0Then go to your spice drawer and get some cloves and cinnamon. \u00a0The proportions will depend on how many orange peels you have.<\/h3>\n

3. \u00a0Then gather some fresh rosemary from your herb garden or buy some at the market.<\/h3>\n

Put them in a neat little pile and gently mix them with your fingers.<\/h3>\n

She put her potpourri on a little plate that belonged to my great-grandmother, and it looks really nice just sitting on her carrara marble kitchen counter.<\/h3>\n

You can enhance its fragrance by adding a few drops of oil of cinnamon now and then.\u00a0 Now on to our next post.<\/h3>\n

RALPH LAUREN’S THANKSGIVNG TABLE by Janette<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

The nice thing about being a DIYer is that if you don\u2019t have a Ralph Lauren budget, you can still borrow some of his ideas and recreate or reinvent them for a lot less.\u00a0 This look is timeless.\u00a0 I bet you have lots of the items on this table in your decorating stash already.<\/h3>\n

I made two visits to the store and just by accident was able to see his Thanksgiving table, and two days later, I saw his Christmas table.<\/h3>\n

For the table cloth, he used one of his plaid wool blankets. \u00a0This is an easy trick we all can do with wool fabric or even a plaid stadium blanket. \u00a0By the way, there wasn\u2019t a painted piece of furniture in the place.<\/h3>\n

There were four chairs pulled up to the table, and he used two rich purple velvet pillows and two plaid pillow to match the table cloth. \u00a0This is not a color most of us would associate with Thanksgiving. \u00a0I love how they always think outside the box.<\/h3>\n

His centerpiece of various fruits, antler candle holders and even a demi-john ties in with the purple, also. \u00a0This is easy to reproduce with fresh fruit that you can eat later. \u00a0Many of you already own demi-johns and antlers.<\/h3>\n

The centerpiece was on top of a lazy-susan. \u00a0(At this point I was being stalked by an unhappy sales clerk. \u00a0I don\u2019t think he realized that I had gotten permission to take photos).<\/h3>\n

Along with the fruit, there were deep red roses in julep cups. \u00a0I think their philosophy is \u201cmore is more.”<\/h3>\n

He teamed his formal crystal with\u2026\u2026<\/h3>\n

I L.O.V.E.D. these linen napkins. \u00a0The reindeer ties in with the antler candle holder but also could be used for Christmas. \u00a0The napkin ring was a miniature stirrup and was very heavy.<\/h3>\n

The light was very understated. \u00a0When I went back two days later, it had been changed.<\/h3>\n
