This is not a promotion, but I have to tell you about some luck I recently had.\u00a0 In the world of raffles and give-aways, I have been somewhat lucky.\u00a0 I haven’t won a lottery or anything like that, but I have had my fair share of wins in raffles, door prizes, and promotions on a small scale basis.\u00a0\u00a0 And lucky for me, I was a lucky winner at Haven.\u00a0 Mom and I were about to get an early start on our trip home and skip the closing session when Shirley<\/a>, Kim<\/a> and Kim<\/a> convinced us to stay.\u00a0 And lucky for us that we did, because I won the use of a fancy new GMC vehicle for one week. \u00a0It was free of charge with no strings attached.\u00a0 How fun is that!!!<\/h3>\n

Mom and I decided that we would schedule to use it last week when she was here in Syracuse.\u00a0 Just minutes after I picked her up at the airport, the burgundy colored Sierra arrived at my place from New Jersey with a full tank of gas. \u00a0 A man delivered it and then caught a plane home.\u00a0 He said someone would pick it up the following week, and that the gas tank could be empty. Wow, what service!!!<\/h3>\n

Gracie watched from the foyer as I signed the paperwork to make everything legal.\u00a0 (Be sure to come back Wednesday to see the overhaul of this room that Mom did.)<\/h3>\n

The first day we had the vehicle, I drove us to a nearby town, and we had a nice lunch and then shopped in the local stores.\u00a0 Usually when Mom is here, we start doing house projects as soon as she walks in the door.\u00a0 This time we took things a little slower and enjoyed doing some activities, too.<\/h3>\n

The next day was half-price day at the Thrifty Shopper, and boy am I glad that we stopped in.\u00a0 Evidently our timing was right because a brand new chest of drawers was sitting tall and pretty on the show room floor.\u00a0 The price tag said $100, but since it was half-price day, that meant it was only $50.00.\u00a0 Sold!!!\u00a0 I grabbed the tag right away, and it’s a good thing I did.\u00a0 People were flocking around to get their claws on it, but they were too late.<\/h3>\n

Since I was driving a fancy pick-em-up truck, we were able to haul it home.\u00a0 On the way, we stopped to buy four pulls to replace the ones that were missing.\u00a0 When we arrived home, Mom did some computer research and found out that the retail price on the chest of drawers was $799.99.\u00a0 We scored quite a deal!!!<\/h3>\n

We decided that we would remove this piece of furniture, which is the first piece I ever painted, and put the chest here by the stairs.\u00a0 It might be an unusual place for a chest of drawers, but I have been in Blogland long enough to know there really aren’t any rules about decorating that can’t be broken.\u00a0 I am going to sell this piece, so if any of you Syracuse readers are interested, leave a comment.<\/h3>\n

This is what it looked like the first time I painted it before I repainted it yellow.<\/h3>\n

The furniture had a few scratches, and there were some indentations around the area where the old knobs had been.\u00a0 We fixed everything with a little sanding and some Old English furniture repair.\u00a0 (Excuse the blurry photo.)<\/h3>\n

I bought four of these pulls.\u00a0 At first we thought they might be too delicate for the piece, but once they were on, both Mom and I agreed that they were perfect.\u00a0 The finish is not really a brass or a pewter or a bronze.\u00a0 It’s a mixture of all three and is a perfect match to the hardware that was already on the other drawers.<\/h3>\n

It looks pretty great, don’t you think?\u00a0 I did something really cool to the walls to balance out the height, and I am crazy about it.\u00a0 You will have to come back to see what I did.\u00a0 It makes all the difference in the world.<\/h3>\n

It makes the perfect place for my FALL bottles.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0The wood finish also blends in nicely with the bar<\/a> that Mr. Spring built for the adjacent game room.\u00a0 (Don’t worry, there are still some painted pieces of furniture<\/a> in there.)<\/h3>\n
