Mom and I love going to tea when we are together.\u00a0 We have a great little tea room we visit regularly when I am in Lexington, but we have yet to find one here in Syracuse.\u00a0 We decided we would create our own little tea experience chez moi.\u00a0 And luckily, the folks at Martha Stewart sent us a box of Halloween decoupage goodies and other craft supplies to help set the mood for us.<\/h3>\n

Mom has been a fan\/supporter of Martha Stewart since her very first PBS Thanksgiving special back in 1987, so you can imagine how happy she was about these products.\u00a0 We received Halloween decoupage papers, stencils, stencil brushes, paints, and different kinds of decoupage.\u00a0 Boy, we were about to have some fun!!!<\/h3>\n

We came up with a plan and decided to each work on a little project.\u00a0 We also decided to use items we had on hand and transform them with the Martha Stewart products which are available at Michaels.\u00a0 First, I painted one of my old plate chargers with her chalk board paint.\u00a0 When it dried, I used her stencils and orange craft paint to write Trick or Tea on the border of the charger.<\/h3>\n

Then I used some of the decoupage paper and applied it with the matte decoupage.\u00a0 We thought the lace pattern worked well for our tea.\u00a0 We were surprised to learn that the MS decoupages are dishwasher safe, machine washable, and non-yellowing.\u00a0 They dry with no tack and even stood up to the heat of the teapot filled with hot tea.\u00a0 They can also be used both indoors and out.<\/h3>\n

We decided to turn the charger into a pedestal \u00a0server. \u00a0I grabbed a glass candle holder from my stash and painted it black. \u00a0Then I topped it with the glitter orange. \u00a0We glued it to the charger and immediately had a fancy server just like in the fancy tea rooms.<\/h3>\n

Meanwhile, Mom added some satin orange enhancements to three black candle holders that I already had.<\/h3>\n

She also painted an old wooden tray black.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

The tray had a pattern carved into it that we weren’t crazy about.<\/h3>\n

No problem, though.\u00a0 She just decoupaged some of the lacy black and white paper into the tray using the matte decoupage.\u00a0 It worked perfectly and looked very elegant.<\/h3>\n

Next up, we decided to make napkin holders using the cardboard rolls that held the decoupage paper.\u00a0 I applied some glitter decoupage to it and then…..<\/h3>\n

…..wrapped the paper around it.\u00a0 Then I applied another layer of decoupage.<\/h3>\n

I used a knife to cut the dried project into napkin holders.<\/h3>\n

They looked great.<\/h3>\n

We let everything dry and cure a few days before we used them.\u00a0 Since “Tea Day” was a gloomy one here in upstate New York, we decided to have our tea in the Florida room on the game table.\u00a0 We had some leftover decoupage paper and used it as runners\/place mats.<\/h3>\n

Then we added the chunky candle holders.<\/h3>\n

We were going all out, and so the good china was put to use.<\/h3>\n

Since we made finger sandwiches and dessert, the only silverware we used were spoons for our tea.\u00a0 Our menu consisted of egg salad tea sandwiches and cucumber tea sandwiches along with a nice English tea.\u00a0 Dessert was made up of spiders and hay stacks.\u00a0 Yep, you read that right.\u00a0 Come back tomorrow for the recipes.<\/h3>\n

Even though we didn’t have a fancy waiter serving us, and we weren’t in a fancy tea room, we still had a great time enjoying our Halloween creations and good food.<\/h3>\n
