Jordan shared with you three posts about decorating small spaces, (here<\/a> and here<\/a>) and decorating a rental (here<\/a>).\u00a0 We got this great info at Haven, and all of this came from just one session put on by Not Just a Housewife<\/a> and The Shabby Nest<\/a>.\u00a0 These ladies were loaded with info.\u00a0 We also learned some great hints how about decorating on a small budget.<\/h3>\n

Bring nature in.\u00a0 Use leaves instead of flowers.\u00a0 I keep something in this little vase all year long.\u00a0 In the summer I use fern fronds, in the fall I use feathers,\u00a0 in the winter it holds twigs, and in the spring it holds small limbs from our shrubs.\u00a0 It’s all free and seasonal.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0\"Rocks\"<\/p>\n

Make something plain special.\u00a0 Put interesting rocks in a bowl or or even in a silver dish.\u00a0 I gathered these stones in Zimbabwe, and yes, I actually carried them home on the plane.\u00a0 This is something your kids can help you with, and they will get some ownership on the decorating decisions in your house.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0\"Flowers\"<\/p>\n

Buy tiny bouquets at the market, and make them last as long as possible by changing the water daily and snipping off the ends and changing the vases as the flowers get smaller. \u00a0Better yet, use flowers from your garden – even flowers you typically don’t think of for a bouquet. \u00a0This little vase holds a fern frond, a stem of rosemary, a geranium, and pansy. \u00a0None of these are normally used in traditional arrangements.<\/h3>\n

\"Baby<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Paint, paint, paint.\u00a0 I feel as if I’m preaching to the choir on this one.\u00a0 I don’t need to say another thing about paint.\u00a0 And while you are painting, try repurposing.\u00a0 For instance, this great bar was once a baby changing table.\u00a0 All it took was paint and time to make the transformation.<\/h3>\n

Shop your house and make great art from what you find. \u00a0 Hang plates.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Frame some old keys or old silverware from your grandma.\u00a0 Maps make great<\/a> and interesting art as do fun restaurant place mats and menus.\u00a0 Jordan framed the menu from her and Mr. Spring’s first date and gave it to him for a wedding gift.\u00a0 He loved it.\u00a0 Framed fabric<\/a> works well, too.\u00a0 Use some cute note cards<\/a>.\u00a0 Even an old game can become art.\u00a0 I love what Jordan did with these Scrabble letters<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0\"Painted<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Add trim to what you have.\u00a0 Rick rack and ribbon on curtains are a great way to add a pop of color on a dime.\u00a0 Or you can buy inexpensive plain white curtains and paint them with stripes or stencil them.\u00a0 It just takes some time and measuring and a little paint.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0Another great way to have unusual accessories is to buy some used lamps at garage sales and thrift stores.\u00a0 Be sure their electrical components are working and safe.\u00a0 Spray paint and buy or make interesting shades.\u00a0 I\u00a0stole<\/del> found this lamp from our son’s stash that is being stored in our basement.\u00a0 It was faux brass with a plain white shade.\u00a0 A can of spray paint and a Target shade later, and it looks fab on our kitchen peninsula.<\/h3>\n

\"DIY<\/p>\n

Wrap things in twine to create cute little holders.\u00a0 Tin cans work, or you can even wrap thrift store glass containers with rope, and it can either look nautical or give it an autumnal look.<\/h3>\n

\"Book\"<\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Buy an old magazine or book at a flea market or online and frame the vintage ads as art.\u00a0 This bird came from a British children’s book.<\/h3>\n

\"GUEST<\/p>\n

Use sheets instead of fabric for big projects.\u00a0 You can almost always find sheets for sale on the end of an aisle at Home Goods, TJ Maxx or Marshall’s.\u00a0 Sheets can make great shower curtains, curtains, table cloths, dust ruffles and shams and sheets!!! Imagine that!\u00a0 You can also cut them up to make new covers for the throw pillows on your sofa.\u00a0 I used sheets for a shower curtain for my mom.<\/h3>\n

\"Mail<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Think outside of the box. \u00a0Use ordinary items like bread boxes to store more than just bread. \u00a0They would be great for sewing notions, desk items, make-up, photos, jewelry, and much more. \u00a0Be creative!!!\u00a0 My mom turned a mail box into a bread box <\/a>for me.<\/h3>\n
