{"id":16681,"date":"2013-02-28T17:01:01","date_gmt":"2013-02-28T22:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=16681"},"modified":"2018-03-13T14:53:31","modified_gmt":"2018-03-13T19:53:31","slug":"irish-soda-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=16681","title":{"rendered":"Irish Soda Bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">Magical things happen in March, and it&#8217;s right around the corner.\u00a0 Spring arrives, the grass turns green, the animal birthing process kicks into high gear, and of course, we celebrate St. Patrick&#8217;s Day. \u00a0This Irish soda bread recipe is one I make every year, and I thought I would share it early so that you have a chance to make sure you have the ingredients by St. Patrick&#8217;s Day, even though you probably already have most of them on hand.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2013\/02\/28\/irish-soda-bread\/img_4882\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16682\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-16682\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_4882-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_4882-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_4882-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">I always use a recipe from <a href=\"http:\/\/allrecipes.com\/\">Allrecipes<\/a> since it gets 4.5 stars. \u00a0It is easy, tasty, and will be a nice treat for you and your family.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">IRISH SODA BREAD<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">1\/2 cup white sugar<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">4 cups flour<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">2 teaspoons baking powder<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">1 teaspoon baking soda<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">3\/4 teaspoon salt<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">3 cups raisins (I don&#8217;t like raisins so I only used 1 cup which is plenty)<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">1 tablespoon caraway seeds (I omitted these)<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">2 eggs, lightly beaten<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">1 1\/4 cup buttermilk<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">1 cup sour cream<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-26426\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Irish-Soda-Bread.jpg\" alt=\"Irish Soda Bread\" width=\"640\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Irish-Soda-Bread.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Irish-Soda-Bread-430x319.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Irish-Soda-Bread-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">DIRECTIONS<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch round cast iron skillet or a 9 inch round baking or cake pan.<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>In a mixing bowl, combine flour (reserving 1 tablespoon), sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, raisins and caraway seeds. In a small bowl, blend eggs, buttermilk and sour cream. Stir the liquid mixture into flour mixture just until flour is moistened. Knead dough in bowl about 10 to 12 strokes. Dough will be sticky. Place the dough in the prepared skillet or pan and pat down. Cut a 4&#215;3\/4 inch deep slit in the top of the bread. Dust with reserved flour<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven for 65 to 75 minutes.
