We’re still enjoying the holidays, and here is one of most popular posts from 2012. \u00a0My mom has been taking art classes for a little over a year. \u00a0She took a photo of a hen and decided it would be a good subject for her emerging skills. \u00a0You also might want to hop over and read about\u00a0Marie Bee<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

I have mentioned a few times on our blog that I have been taking painting classes in oils for the past year. \u00a0Since we travel so much, it takes a long time from the beginning to the end of a painting. \u00a0However, this week I finished one measuring 9 x 12 \u00a0and I am really proud of it.<\/h3>\n

When I visited a\u00a0honey farm<\/a>\u00a0last spring, I took lots of photos of the farm animals. \u00a0I particularly liked this little lady and decided to paint her.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0Meet Samantha.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I am really happy with her. \u00a0I think her personality shines through.<\/h3>\n

Here they are side by side. \u00a0(The green you see at the bottom of the painting is the fern that it was leaning against).<\/h3>\n

She is resting here on a fern in the courtyard for photo purposes only, but her permanent home will be in the foyer. \u00a0The nail is in the wall and waiting for her.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Considering she is nesting in a bed of straw, the frame might be a little too formal for her, but it was one I had on hand. \u00a0It was originally a brass color, but I changed it up by adding some black paint and then rubbing it off. \u00a0That keeps the straw from blending right into the frame. \u00a0Now the frame and Samantha are both dark, and they work well together.<\/h3>\n

Now that Samantha is finished, I have already selected my next subject. \u00a0(I love saying that).<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So, this is it. \u00a0I took this photo at the Monet exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden in August. \u00a0I have lots of flower photos, but getting one with the bumble bee in the perfect spot sealed the deal. \u00a0Wish me luck.<\/h3>\n
