If you have been reading this blog for a while now, you know that I travel to Ohio for work. \u00a0I don’t mind because I get to spend time with my high school friend Amanda and her family who live in Dayton. \u00a0Amanda and I loved doing projects even when we were in our teens. \u00a0We bought old furniture and changed it with paint. \u00a0I love painting things white, and now Amanda does as well. \u00a0You saw her updated dining room (here<\/a>) earlier in the year, and today we are excited to show you her kitchen upgrade.<\/h3>\n

Everyone loves a good kitchen before and after, \u00a0so come along as I show you Amanda’s. \u00a0This is how it looked the day they viewed the house. \u00a0Great size, lots of cabinets and perfect for her family which includes three pre-school boys. \u00a0They changed the floor right away, but something still needed to be done.<\/h3>\n

Along with the floor they also got rid of the florescent light above the island.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Many times when I visited, I talked about how much I love my painted white cabinets<\/a>. \u00a0Although painting them is a ton of work, they make a room look so fresh and open. \u00a0Month after month I mentioned more and more about white cabinets. \u00a0Amanda started to get on board. \u00a0She always talked about how she LOVED my mom’s kitchen<\/a>\u00a0with the the white cabinets and gray peninsula.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0Then one morning I got a call from Amanda asking, “Should I do it and paint the cabinets?” \u00a0My response was \u00a0“YES!” This little extra boost of encouragement was all it took. \u00a0 She was off prepping, sanding, priming, painting and glazing all during the boys’ nap time and when they were asleep at night. \u00a0The end result….. Amazing.<\/h3>\n

Amanda painted the cabinets white and then added a glaze to the them. \u00a0I had my first opportunity with a glaze on this project,\u00a0<\/a>and Amanda used the same type.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

She also added a breadboard backsplash with wall paper. \u00a0Isn’t it cute? \u00a0It looks just like my mother’s wooden beadboard backsplash.<\/h3>\n

It took a total of three weeks of nap times and evenings for Amanda to transform her kitchen. \u00a0I am so proud of her.<\/h3>\n

For the island Amanda matched the Annie Sloan color Paris Gray.<\/h3>\n

While I am always happy to hold a paint brush and help Amanda stencil her dining room<\/a> or paint trim, my work schedule didn’t work out for me to be in Ohio and help for this process. \u00a0I did enjoy spending time with Amanda and her family and admiring all the hard work she did. \u00a0I learned when Mom and I painted my kitchen, it takes a lot of work. \u00a0It looks wonderful.<\/h3>\n
