We have a little glass room in the corner of our courtyard that I just love. \u00a0I have written about it here<\/a>, here<\/a>,\u00a0here<\/a>, and\u00a0here<\/a>. \u00a0The previous owner had it installed, and it is one of the few things that we kept during the total gut job we did on this place when we bought it. \u00a0She did have blue 1980’s \u00a0tile on the floor which we removed.<\/h3>\n

I love checks, toiles, \u00a0and plaids, and I love mixing them. \u00a0This isn’t a Christmas look at all. \u00a0It’s more the “lumber jack lives here” look.<\/h3>\n

The vintage trunk that serves as the coffee table is a perfect place for storing the summer pillows. \u00a0In the summer, it stores the winter plaids. \u00a0You last saw those antique wooden spools under a cloche centerpiece<\/a> on the dining room table. \u00a0The black fabric is a faux bear skin rug that I made out of black furry fabric.<\/h3>\n

Sometimes the “bear skin” is a rug, sometimes it is tossed on a chair, but this year it is keeping the trunk warm. \u00a0(Ignore its lint. \u00a0Bears do that, you know).<\/h3>\n

My goal this season is just to buy a tree and a few poinsettias and then to pull everything else from what I have. \u00a0That’s the case with this little vignette made from an Ikea dish towel, a thermos I bought at Brimfield, a coaster made from a tile, a mug from one of our sets, and an old photo that I enlarged. \u00a0It shows Mr. Autumn’s uncle and some of his female friends frolicking in the snow (yes, they frolicked back then) in the 1930’s. \u00a0I love it.<\/h3>\n

I always pull out my Hans Brinker<\/em>\u00a0book this time of year. \u00a0Did you know it was written by an American author who never went to the Netherlands? \u00a0None of my Dutch friends are familiar with the story because it is an American thing.<\/h3>\n

This winter look is 95 per cent complete. \u00a0All I need to do is replace the garden-themed mirror over the sofa with something that is a little more rustic. \u00a0Now, I think I’ll go sit in the wicker chair, wrap up in the plaid blanket, and sip some hot chocolate.<\/h3>\n
