Hi everyone. \u00a0Mr. Spring and I are really excited because we are hosting our first family Thanksgiving at our house this year. \u00a0We will have 15 folks chowing down on all the goodies. \u00a0Even though the two of us are a great team in the kitchen, when you are cooking for an army <\/del>a lot of people, you always need some help – especially at the last minute when a million things need to be done at once.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

My mom came up with a great idea a few years ago to take some of the pressure off of the cook around meal time. \u00a0She even wrote a blog about it here<\/a>. \u00a0This also serves as an ice breaker. \u00a0Well, this year I am following her lead, but I decided to make it a little fancier.<\/h3>\n

First, I bought a package of thirty foam turkeys at Michael’s for 50 per cent off. \u00a0They also had glittered leaves that were cute.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Now here’s the thing, and you all know this already. \u00a0Everybody always<\/em> offers to help when they come to your house for a meal. \u00a0And you probably always<\/em> say, “Oh, that’s okay. \u00a0Just enjoy yourself.” \u00a0They really, really<\/em> do want to help, but you don’t know what to tell them to do. \u00a0I promise you, based on what I have observed at my mother’s, your guests will be thrilled to have a task to do – 99.9 per cent of them will, at least. \u00a0There is always that one person (you know who you are) who thinks it’s a dumb idea and refuses to play. \u00a0So, you need to come up with a list based on your needs and how you prepare\/serve the meal.<\/h3>\n

MY LIST<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

1. \u00a0Set the table. (I’ll ask two people to do this and have everything ready for them to just set out).<\/h3>\n

2. \u00a0Put ice and water in glasses.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

3. \u00a0Open and pour wine.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

4. \u00a0Help put food on table.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

5. \u00a0Say grace. \u00a0(I’ll rig it so my grandmother gets this one. \u00a0She always likes to say grace).<\/h3>\n

6. \u00a0Help clear table.<\/h3>\n

7. \u00a0Take dessert orders and serve.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

8. \u00a0Prepare dessert orders.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

9. \u00a0Take coffee\/tea orders and serve.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

10. \u00a0Prepare coffee\/tea orders.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

11. \u00a0Help put food away.<\/h3>\n

12. \u00a0Be on stand-by. \u00a0(This person will do whatever needs to be done that I didn’t anticipate.<\/h3>\n

I didn’t make one for my mom, my husband, or me because we will be finalizing the cooking in command central. \u00a0 \u00a0This will surely make your day go more smoothly. \u00a0And by the way, you can use the extra turkeys as coasters.<\/h3>\n
