I hope that this will be a better week for our country than last week was. \u00a0Jordan and I have followed the news like everyone else, and the despair that people are feeling really reminds us of what is truly important in life.<\/h3>\n

When I was growing up, a phrase my mother always used when she was tired was “Oh, I look<\/em> like the last rose of summer,” or “Oh, I feel<\/em> like the last rose of summer.”<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Yesterday while spending some time in our courtyard, I snipped off a few blossoms that were holding on to life. \u00a0Two little pansies, a sprig of rosemary, a fern frond, and literally the last rose of summer made the sweetest little bouquet.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I placed it on a little rustic green step stool that I use as an end table in our great room. \u00a0It is paired with an old piece of silver and a little sea shell, another reminder of summer.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Another way to preserve a little bit of summer is with this dried hydrangea arrangement I put together at a garden club meeting.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The muted colors fit in perfectly with our fall decorations.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It fits perfectly in this bread crock that my niece and nephew gave me years ago for Christmas. \u00a0You can actually bake a loaf in this handmade pot.<\/h3>\n

This is all making me think that looking like the last rose of summer might not be a bad thing afterall.<\/h3>\n
