Hi everyone. \u00a0A special house guest arrived this morning to spend some time with her parents. \u00a0Jordan is in the house!!! \u00a0Yeah!! \u00a0She has to do a little work in Ohio, but we \u00a0are planning to have some fun, too. \u00a0Her husband will be joining us later in the week for a college football game and horse races at the famous Keeneland race track.<\/h3>\n

And speaking of horse races, we have an equestrian theme going on here today in the form of some sports coat pillows.<\/h3>\n

Regular readers of The 2 Seasons<\/em> know I am a fan of the Ralph Lauren look and always stop by his store when I am in New York City. \u00a0You can read about some of my visits here<\/a>, here<\/a>, here<\/a>, here<\/a>,\u00a0and here<\/a>. \u00a0And next week I’ll be showing you what I loved on my latest visit.<\/h3>\n

I wanted some nice masculine pillows like the ones in the Lauren store. \u00a0So, instead of paying hundreds of dollars for them, I decided to make my own. \u00a0I bought two sports coats at Goodwill that were on sale for $2.00 each, reduced from $3.99. \u00a0It was really a simple procedure.<\/h3>\n

This is all you need to do to make your own:<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

1. \u00a0First, cut out a rectangular shape from the front of the sports coat, and then sew the opening shut so it won’t gap when it becomes a pillow.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

2. \u00a0Cut away the lining and any extra fabric on the inside. \u00a0This step will cut down on the bulkiness.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

3. \u00a0Cut some plain fabric (I used part of a painter’s drop cloth) the same size as the sports coat section you already cut out.<\/h3>\n

4. \u00a0Place the two right sides together, and sew them to each other. \u00a0Leave a space large enough to insert the stuffing.<\/h3>\n

5. \u00a0Turn the pillow right side out and fill the insides with pillow stuffing. \u00a0This works better than a pillow form because the shape of the pillow will probably be an odd size since it is being constructed from a sports coat.<\/h3>\n

Along with a throw, I put them on a bench in the upstairs hallway. \u00a0Then I put a pair of boots beside the bench. \u00a0It all fits in nicely with some equestrian prints that hang on the wall in another part of the hall. \u00a0Even though I didn’t buy these pillows from him, I’m sure Ralph would be pleased with the way they turned out.<\/h3>\n
