Happy Monday! \u00a0Mom and I have been reposting our favorite post at the beginning of each month from the same month last year. \u00a0We had a lot going on last October, but overall, our favorite blog entry was the reveal of the thrift store hutch we overhauled together. \u00a0To see the hutch with its new drawer lining, you can go here<\/a>. \u00a0It’s funny to see this post because we have also installed new hardwood floors<\/a> in the room where we did the work. \u00a0I think our photography skills have improved since then, too. \u00a0Enjoy.<\/h3>\n

My mother spent a week with us recently, and we had a great time taking on some painting projects. \u00a0We painted our kitchen and our guest bedroom.\u00a0We also took a trip to the Salvation Army store and spotted this 1976 pine hutch for $129.00 \u00a0We knew it had great potential, and we bought it right away.<\/h3>\n

I forgot to take a picture when the hutch was still together, and I found this look-alike online. \u00a0So here is the before of the hutch. \u00a0We decided to remove some of the early American curves.<\/h3>\n

I am trying to remove the bottom section of the hutch to make the lines straighter. \u00a0I was laughing because Gracie was wanting to play and kept bringing me toys. \u00a0We removed some trim that made it look too colonial so that the lines would be straighter. \u00a0Mr. Spring and I live in a 1928 craftsmen house, and we wanted the hutch to look better in our house.<\/h3>\n

After four coats of paint, it looks like this.<\/h3>\n

The trim now is straight and linear. \u00a0The “panes” were brass and we painted them white. \u00a0(I see from the photos that I still have some paint to scrape off.)<\/h3>\n

We definitely want to update the hardware because this is too early American for our tastes. \u00a0Meanwhile, I painted it oil based bronze. \u00a0The problem is that some of the holes for the hardware are three inches apart and some are four.<\/h3>\n

I also need to line the drawers and get rid of the 1776 look.<\/h3>\n

I have lots of accessorizing to do. \u00a0Right now I have placed my vintage state glasses, here<\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0in the cabinets. \u00a0I will be on the look-out for the right items.<\/h3>\n

I love having a nice surface to use when we are entertaining. \u00a0It will be a great place to set the desserts.<\/h3>\n

Thanks to a recipe I found at No Minimalist Here<\/em>,<\/a><\/span> we mixed our own chalk paint. \u00a0It was a huge savings.<\/h3>\n

However, we chose not to distress it.<\/h3>\n

I will keep you updated when the handles are changed and when the drawers are lined. \u00a0(After revisiting this post, I realized that I never blogged about the new hardware. \u00a0I bought some great pulls that have a bronze finish and are more youthful and contemporary.<\/h3>\n
