Hi everyone. \u00a0A few weeks ago, during the hottest days of the summer, Mr. Autumn and I took a road trip to Aspen, CO. \u00a0We spent a week-end in Nebraska with some friends, and on the way home we did some sightseeing.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

One of our stops was the childhood home of President Dwight Eisenhower in Abilene, KS.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The 1,200 square feet house now rests in an estate-like setting made up of 23 acres. \u00a0When the president was a little boy, the house was surrounded by city streets lined with houses.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Ike’s five brothers and his parents lived in the modest home.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

There was a front parlor, which we would now call a living room.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The furniture all belonged to the family.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This is a close-up of the room’s wall paper.<\/h3>\n

The sitting room, or family room, opened into the parlor. \u00a0This is the room where the family hung out and played the piano. \u00a0Dwight could play the piano as could his brothers.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

The kitchen and dining room were once combined, but in Eisenhower’s late teens a bathroom and separate kitchen were added. \u00a0The kitchen was so small, though, that it couldn’t be on the tour.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This random horn was used in the dining room as a towel hook.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The parent’s bedroom was also on the first floor.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Yep, they had twin beds, but it didn’t keep them from having six sons.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Mrs. Eisenhower sewed in the bedroom, also.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We also toured the Eisenhower museum and library.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The cherry on the top of this stop was a quick visit to the National Greyhound Hall of Fame which was right across the street. \u00a0I am a former greyhound owner, so, this place had a special spot in my heart.<\/h3>\n
