I’m sure you know the saying, “It looks good on paper”. \u00a0Like, if you are shopping for a house or a new man, and it has everything you’re looking for. \u00a0But when you see the house or meet the man, there is just something missing. \u00a0I know the feeling.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I recently ordered this tray from Pottery Barn. \u00a0It looked perfect on paper.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It had the jute handles I was wanting. \u00a0The rectangular shape was perfect. \u00a0The wicker was the right color.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I wanted a tray just like my girl Ina. \u00a0I wanted to carry meals to Mr. Autumn on game days just like Ina<\/a> carries meals to Jeffrey. \u00a0Except he is sitting on one of their fabulous porches reading the Wall Street Journal or writing another book at his desk. \u00a0I wanted to fill it with her recipes that I had cooked to perfection.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And then it arrived. \u00a0Whomp, whomp…… \u00a0Everything is perfect except it is way. too. big. \u00a0If I filled it with delicious foods from my oven, I wouldn’t be able to carry it. \u00a0It is big enough for food to feed a family of ten – not us two empty-nesters.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It was too cumbersome to return. \u00a0I didn’t want to deal with it. \u00a0So, for a while it leaned against the wall in our sunroom<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But then I decided that I would not be defeated by my tray basket. \u00a0No, it wouldn’t get me down.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I grabbed some of my vintage favorites and made a vignette for a centerpiece – except it covers three-fourths of the kitchen table.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the items I chose was a scale I bought at my grandfather’s estate auction. \u00a0It’s so old that I just bet the paint is loaded with lead, but it has the perfect old scale patina.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then I added my vintage half-gallon milk jugs. \u00a0You saw them last here<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The last item I added was a little homemade basket filled with lavendar from my mother’s garden.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Can you smell it? \u00a0Mmmmmmmmm, it smells so fresh.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There is a lot of space left that I could fill in, but then it would be too heavy to lift when it’s time to set the table for dinner. \u00a0I just hope it looks okay because after all, it looked good on paper.<\/h3>\n
