A few years ago, I was gifted some goodies to use when I wanted to pamper my feet. One of the items was peppermint foot cream, and it was just the best. I loved rubbing that aromatic, soothing cream into my feet at night before I crawled under the sheets. Since we have been doing a lot of walking/hiking in preparation for our upcoming El Camino de Santiago trip, our feet have taken a beating. We are trying to build up callouses so that we won’t get blisters during our long hike. When you think of pretty feet, you don’t necessarily think of callouses, but that’s our goal right now. I bought some Burt’s Bees peppermint foot cream, but then I learned on one of the Youtube channels that I have been watching that shea butter is a pure moisturizer. The lady uses it on her lower body, on her lips, and on her face. Since I apply Vaseline to my lips every night, I decided that perhaps shea butter would be a healthier alternative. After all, Vaseline is a petroleum by-product. Who knows how many jars I have ingested during my lifetime? So, I decided to order some organic shea butter here and go the healthier route.
Then I realized that I could use my peppermint essential oil along with the shea butter to make foot cream for our hike. (I will be hiking 200 miles, and my husband will hike 500 miles across northern Spain.) Making peppermint foot cream was so simple to do and took less than five minutes. It smells wonderful and is so very moisturizing. And the bonus is that I still have lots of shea butter remaining to use on my skin, lips, and hair. By the way, shea butter is made from a nut of the karite tree, which is found in Africa. I should also add that I don’t know why foot cream is usually peppermint, but it is. You don’t need to be hiking to pamper your feet. We thought you might like to see how easy it is to make.
Here’s what you need to make peppermint foot cream:
Shea butter ( you can buy it here)
Peppermint essential oil (I am now using this brand.)
Plastic containers (available here)
1/2 cup shea butter
12 drops peppermint essential oil
Put both ingredients in a bowl and mix till well combined. Put in a small jar to store. Rub on feet as desired.
That’s all there is to it. Let us know if you make some.
Thanks so much for stopping in.
