Are you ready for some football? I sure am, and I know Jordan is, too. In fact, I went to a tailgating party and football game last weekend and had a great time with some dear friends. It’s always nice to think up special game day foods. It doesn’t matter if you are meeting friends for a party before the game or watching a game at home on your comfy sofa. It’s always nice to have a special meal or treat to go along with the excitement. If our local university is playing a game with a noon time kick-off, we usually have brunch before the game along with some special adult beverages. If it’s later in the day, the menu changes accordingly. Ditto for the weather. When the season begins, and the temperatures are high, our menu is much lighter than it is when late October rolls around and calls for soups. Here in Kentucky, tailgating before the Keeneland races in October has become really popular. We’ve wrangled up some of our favorite recipes that would be perfect for any game day or race day. Enjoy!
These pepperoni rolls, which are popular in my home state, make a great appetizer. Use frozen bread, if you are in a rush.
Mini pigs in a blanket are easy to make and easy to transport to the pre-game tailgating party.
Keep these Sloppy Joes warm in the slow cooker.
Grandma’s hot dog sauce is one of our most popular recipes ever, and it makes a big batch that is perfect served on a grilled hot dog at a tailgating party.
Everyone loves a good meatball sandwich, and these meatballs are the best, according to my Italian friend.
Slow cooker jambalaya is a great game day meal, especially if you are playing a team from the south.
When the weather turns cold, minestrone will warm you up.
Sides and Salads
These macaroni and cheese muffins give you the mac and cheese experience, but you don’t need a fork.
Comments will come your way when you serve earthquake cake. It is my favorite dessert this year, and I thank my daughter-in-law for sharing her recipe with me.
Jordan wrote a great tutorial on how to make these delicious fall leaf sugar cookies.
Another one of our recipes that always gets rave reviews is this caramel sauce for apple dipping. It’s a perfect dish for tailgating, but remember……no double-dipping.
