My Home Office Tour

Hi everyone!  Mom and I were just so excited about the arrival of the new prince yesterday.  We just love all things royal.  I am already looking forward to the royal wedding in a few weeks!  Do you get as excited about royal happenings as we do???  Okay – let’s get to today’s topic. Last week I showed you my painted desk in my home office, and now I thought it was time to give you a full tour. Come on in!

The office is on the left as you walk in the front door.  It has French doors, and I usually have at least one open unless I am doing my early morning teaching. I love the look of the French doors for an office, and it is nice I can close them as needed.

Small but Perfect

The room is small but perfect for an office, and I tried so many different setups before I settled on this on.  At one point my desk was right in front of the windows.  Another time I had my desk facing the wall in front of the doors that lead out to our cocktail porch.  Well, the desk floating made the most sense to get the most bang for my buck out of this small space.

Behind the desk I tried a few bookshelf options.  I bought a pretty one with mirrors from Target, and then when I went to buy the second one they were discontinued.  It was a blessing in disguise because I found these from Ikea.  I was shocked that Ikea had something so sturdy and so tall.  They are much nicer than the Billy bookcases that we used in our last house.

Practical

I opted for the gray, and I am happy with the color since my desk is so bright.  The map fits the space for now, but I am not sure if it will be my long term art.  Behind the map I have the alphabet and a backdrop that I use when teaching.  While Little Miss loves the colors of the school art behind the map, I don’t want it on display when I am not teaching.  This map is easy to take off and replace in the mornings.  For now it works. As far as the shelves in the bookcases, this is about as styled as it gets because they are working bookcases.  The baskets help hide paperwork such as bills and other papers.  They also store all those electronic cords and other random things we tend to end up with in our house.

Comfortable Office Seating

I have had the chairs for years, and they are actually from Target.  They are both masculine and feminine and fit in with lots of decor styles.  You can find similar ones here.  They are a houndstooth fabric, and they have moved to multiple places.  Sometimes when I am working, Yankee will come in and have a seat so that proves they are comfy.  The cheetah rug cloth is from Ikea, and it adds a fun but realistic touch to the whole room.

The little side table is from Ikea, and the lamp base and shade are from World Market.  The shade is available here.  As I type this, I am shocked about how many of the items came from Ikea.

It is small, but it is a great working office for us.  It gets used which is what I like.  I hope you enjoyed the tour.

Cheers!
