A few weeks ago I wrote a post asking your opinion on which fabric I should select for a wing back chair that sits beside the fireplace in our great room. I gave you a selection, and there was an obvious favorite. However, your favorite wasn’t my favorite.
You liked this one.
I favored this one.
My local fabric store was having a March Madness sale in honor of the basketball craziness that goes on here in Kentucky. I thought the sale would end when March ended. No…..that was just silly me. The sale ended when Kentucky lost which was the weekend before March ended. So, when I went to buy my fabric and get the nice 20 per cent discount, the sale was over. That was a big boo.
So, while I was there sulking, I took another stroll through the store to just make sure I didn’t miss a fabric. Thankfully, she has everything arranged according to color, and I definitely wanted something in the blue category. I saw a pretty geometric design in red and loved it. I hurried over to the blue section, and hiding on the very top rack was the same design in navy. I knew as soon as I saw it that it was THE ONE. Unfortunately, it was one of the most expensive fabrics in the shop, but it didn’t matter since I knew that it would look great on our chair.
The shop also provides an upholstery service (as well as custom curtains, pillows, etc.), so, I rushed home and loaded our chair into my SUV and took it to the shop. And just two short weeks later, the chair was ready. (By the way, I am going to tone down the red in the legs by applying some tinted Briwax.)
I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly that all went down.
Last year I took a simple bench to another shop, and I had to wait months for it to be finished. (Go here to read about the stacking tables that recently received an update.)
I love the new fabric and how it has freshened up the old chair. It has an updated look that is versatile, yet it still has the navy that is my favorite color.
Here’s a reminder of what it looked like before.
Thank you all for your input. I’m sorry I didn’t go with your choice, but I didn’t go with my choice either. I went with an even better one.
