We found some really cool DIY sconces, and you’ll never believe what they are made from. When I visited Mom a few weeks ago in Kentucky, we spent an afternoon going to lunch followed by some shopping. We hit several antique shops and a few consignment shops. One of the antique shops had this really cute DIY creation.
Some creative genius used a silver (or silverplate) meat platter dome and made a sconce out of it. I’m sure you all have seen these domes for sale at auctions, flea markets, and estate sales for just a little bit of money. Not many people want them anymore because they have to be polished, they take up too much room, and no one uses them anyway. So, a creative type came up with the next best thing. He (or she) sawed it in half, wired it up, and made an electric wall sconce out of it.
They made a pair, of course. This is beyond our skills, but if any of you out there are handy with a saw, can wire a lamp, and have an old dome lying around, then we say go for it! Let us know how it turns out.
Wow what an inventive way to use those domes!
