Our Trip To Burma

By Janette | Travel

Boston, our hearts are with you.

Jordan and I realized we haven’t shared any photos with you yet from our trip to Burma.  Mr. Autumn and I were there for three weeks in March.  Jordan and Mr. Spring were there for a week and then went to Thailand for a week.  We were in Burma to do some volunteer work in an orphanage.  It was our annual volunteer vacation like the ones we took in Laos and Argentina and 10 other countries in the past decade.

As a quick recap, we worked in three orphanages and made improvements and bought supplies that they needed.  For instance, the children slept on concrete floors, so we built beds and/or bought mats for them to sleep on.  We painted several dormitories, replaced a water pump, created a reading center, built a regulation volleyball court, paid to have one roof replaced and others painted, paid for a fence around one of the compounds, bought computers, and a guitar, provided clothes, games, and toys, etc.  The ages ranged from eight months to 18 years old, and they were so adorable.

We left plenty of time for touring.

We loved the simplicity, purity, and realness of Burma and are thrilled that we had the opportunity to travel there.

Take care.

    Hi Janette,
I was wondering if you could share some info about your volunteering? Do you raise funds at home to help out at the orphanages, etc.? Do you pay your own way (flights, accommodations, food) while you are there? I have often wondered why donated money wouldn’t be better spent paying the people who live there to do painting, etc.? Why is better to have outsiders come in to do this work?
I think what you and your daughter are doing is amazing….I was just curious about the process.
    Thanks

What a wonderful blessing that you all use your time and money to be such an awesome giving!! It sounds like you helped them out so much. How awful that they were having to sleep on a concrete floor.
