Help!!! I Need Your Rug Advice

Today I need your help.  Blog world is loaded with people painting rugs.  So, I thought I should paint one, too.  (Keep in mind that the rug (here)I made for my laundry area (here) was a new creation.  It was different from this little project in which I am working with what I have.)  Plus, our indoor/outdoor kitchen runner is in need of some love.

I bought the rug on Overstock a couple of years ago.  It now has some stains I cannot get out. I have taken it outside and scrubbed it but with no luck.  That was the final straw that pushed me into the paint corner.

This is when I love my large dining room table.  I put an old cloth on top, threw on the rug, and was ready to paint.  Here is another close up.  My first step was the primer.

After applying a whole quart of primer, this was the result – basically nothing.

Here is a close up.  You can barely tell I did a thing, and after a whole quart!!!  I need help!!!  I am wondering  if you all out there have any suggestions.  Should I try spraying it or use a different type of paint? Or should I just go buy a new rug?  Any helpful tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jordan, I’m not sure what to tell you about the rug! I painted a sisal rug one time but never was happy with how it turned out.

What does the back look like?? Maybe that would be easier to work with.

    • Kim,

The back is covered caulk to help grip the rug to the floor, otherwise that would of been a good idea.

      Cheers!

  3. Jordan, I wanted to comment yesterday but I had no advice. I checked back this morning to see if anyone gave you any tips, and it looks like not. That totally sucks! I am anxious to find out whether it works out for you or you go another direction. Let us know!

  5. Kitchen rugs get a lot of wear and tear. I would start with a fresh one. Possibly play with spraying this one and if it works, put it in a less busy area. I’d just consider it an experiment though.
