New Bar Update

By Janette | Before and After, Decorating

Author – Autumn (Janette)

A few weeks ago, I revealed our new and wonderful bar, here.  But since then, I have had a visit from my decorating friend Beth of The Lone Rearranger.  She loves colorful paints and suggested I get rid of the white and paint the bar area a color.

We talked about blue, turquoise, and others, but then by looking in the mirror, I knew what the color needed to be ——–

Yellow.  This oil painting by my mother and my antique hi-rise bicycle can be seen in the bar mirror’s reflection.

We are treating the bicycle like a sculpture, and they work perfectly in our very wide hallway where the bar is tucked.

The color is a much deeper and more intense yellow than what is appearing on this monitor.  I removed all of the glassware and taped everything carefully.  I am not known as the world’s neatest painter.  In fact, I really don’t enjoy it, but since this was such a little job, I took on the challenge.

But the yellow is it!  It has that POP! factor.

This ceiling shot is for you, Beth H.  The yellow on the ceiling and the walls is the same color, but they look completely different, don’t they?  I have this same yellow in the guest room, and the color varies throughout the day.  What you are seeing on the ceiling is the best representation of the true color.

So there you have it – the redoing of the redone bar.

Take care.

We have some pretty golds here in our condo and it’s nice to have color on the walls! I love the black and white photos on the counter, too! Everything looks beautiful! Can you make me a gin and tonic? lol ♥

And “pop factor” it certainly has! Awesome job (and courage…colors that bright always freak me out in the store but they always look so good when used by people who actually know how to make them work)!

The yellow looks great Janette. I love that color and used it in my pool bath and back entry hallway. I have yet to get tired of the sunny, warm color, especially in the wintertime!
Bravo for tackling the painting. Sometimes those small jobs even seem like a lot of work to tackle. I have several such jobs waiting to be faced off right now!! Maybe I will try to do some today…..with inspiration from you!! LOL

PS: I agree with Lavender Dreamer above….except make mine a vodka tonic….or else a skinny girl margarita that you blogged about earlier this year!!

Love it! The yellow is so pretty! Now I have a bar almost just like this in my den! It is completely surrounded by glass and the little sink is in the right hand corner. I have those same glass shelves on each end but none in the middle! Underneath the counter is little fridg and some storage. I call my bar ‘the crystal bar’ for that’s where I keep all of my crystal. My house was built in 1970 and I think these were really popular then. It gives me a nice place for my crystal! 🙂 You can go to the link if you’d like to see it:

I knew that color would look fantastic there! So happy and sunny, and the black and white photos really great against it.

It’s a great pop of color — your friend has a terrific eye. And it ties in beautifully with the art, too. Just perfect for the bar. Jane F

That is huge and gorgeous on your hood. What a bargain!! I need to check out an auction. They say they are quite addictive.

It’s beautiful! I have an area above my sink that needs something more! This is a good idea! And I haven’t been to an auction in years! ♥
